Post Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto Latest Update, Current News, Pictures, Photos, Video

Pacquiao set to go where no fighter has been before
By Kieran Mulvaney

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Manny Pacquiao, widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, is poised to go where no boxer has gone before when he challenges Miguel Cotto for the WBO welterweight title on Saturday.

Victory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena would give the 'Pacman' from General Santos City a seventh world title belt in an unprecedented seventh weight division.

"If I win this fight, it will be history for boxing and for the Philippines," Pacquiao, 49-3-2 (37 KOs), told reporters on Wednesday.

The Filipino southpaw currently holds the IBO light-welterweight title, which he won with a stunning second round knockout of Britain's Ricky Hatton in May.

He has previously held titles at flyweight, super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight.

It has been a remarkable procession for a man who began his professional career fighting at 105 pounds -- 40 pounds lighter than the contracted weight for Saturday's bout.

Post Manny Pacquiao WINS!!!

Manny Pacquiao won against Miguel Cotto when the referee stopped the fight at round 12. All 11 rounds went in favor of Pacquiao. He is now the only 7 time world champion!!!

According to coach Freddie Roach, they had a hard time getting Miguel Cotto knocked down because he was able to counter the "faint" technique by Manny Pacquiao. Once Pacquiao fainted, Cotto must stop, instead he kept on moving. He also wanted Floyd Mayweather Jr. to be Pacquiao's next opponent.

In an interview with Manny, he was surprised that Cotto still continued to fight him in round 11 because of the severe punishment absorbed by Cotto from the so many power punches thrown by him the whole fight. But It was Miguel Cotto's decision to continue fighting until round 12 even his coaching staff decided to concede before round 11. But, Miguel Cotto was very thankful to his trainer and coach that he was allowed to fight. Cotto even mentioned that Pacquiao is one of the best fighters he encountered in his whole career.

For the meantime, Pacquiao said that since his fight with Cotto was really a hard fight, he was not thinking of who to fight next. He just wanted to go on a vacation with his family and have fun.

Post In Punishing Fashion, Pacquiao Wins 7th Title

Manny Pacquiao was fighting for those struggling in his home country, the Philippines, who were ravaged recently by a trio of typhoons. He was fighting for his family — for his father, who made a rare appearance — and for the millions of fans who follow his every move.

But mostly, Pacquiao was fighting for his place in boxing history, one he secured Saturday with a technical knockout of Miguel Cotto that ended when the referee waved the fight over in the 12th and final round.

When it finished, Pacquiao had won his seventh title in seven weight divisions, a first in boxing history. Cotto exited the MGM Grand Garden Arena with white shorts long stained red. His wife and son had left their seats three rounds earlier, so bloody was the beating.

I have so much respect for Manny Pacquiao and he really deserves to be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. He has the heart of a real champion. This guy has been very humble and he manages to fight clean in all of his game. We are all proud of him! Good job Manny! You make us proud to be a Filipino more!

Post Manny Pacquiao stops Cotto to win 7th title (Photos & Videos)

Cotto’s face was swollen, blood was flowing from his nose and his cuts, and he simply couldn’t stop Pacquiao from bouncing inside and throwing both hands at will.

“I didn’t know from where the punches were coming,” Cotto said. “Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxers I ever fought.”

Pacquiao, coming off of spectacular wins over Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, added another one against Cotto, who had lost only once and held the WBO version of the welterweight title.Pacquiao did it in trademark fashion, throwing punches in flurries and from all angles until Cotto began to slow down and then pursuing him relentlessly until the fight finally ended.

Post Pacquiao's power? All natural

Almost as soon as referee Kenny Bayless waived off Manny Pacquiao's resounding 12th-round TKO of Miguel Cotto, talk turned to the prospect of the inevitable showdown between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., a fight for all the marbles: pound-for-pound king, fighter of the decade and higher placement on the all-time list of boxing's best ever.

Floyd Mayweather Sr., the outspoken father of the fighter, who was at the fight last week at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, made the rounds in the media center afterward. He was asked often about the potential mega matchup and said that although he believed his son would "whup" Pacquiao, he would advise him against taking the fight.

Why?

Mayweather accused Pacquiao (yet again) of using performance enhancing drugs as an explanation for Pacquiao's surge through a record seven weight classes to win seven titles, the latest coming as a welterweight.
