Turn off lights whenever you don't need it. Always bare in mind that you need to unplug appliances when nobody's using it specially during brown out.

Simply turning off electronics isn't usually the best choice. Many TVs, VCRs, and gaming systems are inefficient in standby mode. For instance, an Xbox in standby mode (switched off) still uses as much electricity as the average refrigerator. A good way to get around this is to plug all of your electronics into a surge protector and then switch the surge protector off when you leave. Alternatively you can unplug the offending appliances, but I find switching a surge protective on or off is easier to remember.

To save electricity, you have to be always aware of every appliances that are turned on. You should be always be conscious which one is on but its not in use. It is always our responsibility to check everything since it doesn't have its own mind to shut themselves off when they are not in use.

Here are some tips:

TV: unplug it when everybody's sleeping already. Do not put it on standby mode. It still consumes electricity even on standby mode.

Lights: Most people leave room lights on even when no one is there. This is a waste of electricity. Also, avoid leaving security and garden lights even on daytime.

Fans/ AC: Always set your AC to turn off by itself after a few hours especially when the room is already cold enough. There are some home AC's that automatically turns of the electric fan when the AC is turned off.

Also, remember to Turn off you PC and laptop when they are not in use. They consume a lot of energy.

I also suggest that our appliances are plugged to an AVR or Automatic Voltage Regulator so that unexpected fluctuation of electricity or sudden split-second brownouts will not cause sudden flow of high current to our appliances thus, avoiding fast consumption of power in a short span of time. By doing this, we can save money from our monthly electrical bill.

Hope this helps.
I totally agree that unplugging the electrical device from the power outlet helps cut down on electricity bills. When the room is not in use, turn off the lights and other devices. Using CFL bulbs consumes less electricity than fluorescents. Wash and iron your clothes every week.

Hmm. I guess all of the suggestions are really helpful.

For us, during our cost-cutting periods, we usually don't use the refrigerator since it consumes a lot of electricity. We just buy our food and other stuff early in the day then cook it in a lot of meals enough for the whole day. But I guess, this is not applicable to all.

I have heard that if we keep our electronics on stand by mode and keep the plugs in the sockets then the energy consumption is very high in that case because we perceive that nothing is in use but its really consuming electricity. like your microwave, hot plate, LCDs etc. So we can save money through this.

Post Cut Your Electricity Bill

List of Electricity-Saving Tips:

1. Use compact fluorescent bulbs in lamps that are on for more than one or two hours per day.
2. Use a 20-watt desk lamp instead of turning on a 60-watt light bulb that lights the entire room. You'll save about $5 on electricity for every 500 hours you spend at the desk.
3. Go around your home and unplug devices you haven't used in the past month.
4. Use a microwave oven or toaster oven when cooking small items.
5. A computer system can use $35 to $140 worth of electricity per year.
6. Set your refrigerator temperature to 38-40 degrees Fahrenheit. If it's set 5 degrees lower than that, it's costing you about $5 more per year than it should.
7. Employ your kids as "Energy Rangers":
8. Get your deposit back from the power company (you probably paid it when you moved in.)
9. Washer/Dryer. You can save money by washing clothes with cold water....
10. Your local power company probably has a "Time of Use" program.
