![]() There’s no doubt that when we posted this photo and this video from 1985’s original “We Are The World,” we’re still in awe of so many great talents together doing such a great thing. Although life seems to have its triumphs and its tragedies, it’s great to know that there will always be people who want to help during troubled times. Last night, Quincy Jones and a roster of all-star 81 musicians have come together in LA to make that magic happen once again with the re-recording and taping event for Haiti. According to MTV, the session started at 3:00 PM and lasted long into the night. Although artists such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake weren’t actually there as confirmed the new roster of 81 artists seemed to be more than enough. Check the entire lineup MTV provides below: …the sessions did feature a number of current stars such as Miley Cyrus, Keri Hilson and Best New Artist Grammy winner Zac Brown. There were the requisite classic artists who pitched in, including Barbra Streisand; Carlos Santana; Natalie Cole; BeBe Winans; the members of Heart; Freda Payne; Harry Connick Jr.; Earth, Wind & Fire; the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and Al Jardine; Tony Bennett; “Slumdog Millionaire” film score composer A.R. Rahman; “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson; Patti Austin; Celine Dion and Gladys Knight. A few actors were in the studio (Jeff Bridges and Vince Vaughn), as well as the offspring of co-producers Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, Nicole Richie and “Parks and Recreation” star Rashida Jones, and the members of 3T (the sons of Tito Jackson), Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson. Joel and Benji Madden were on hand, as were Akon, Brandy, Melanie Fiona, Mya, Musiq Soulchild, Katharine McPhee, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, “Heroes” actor Jimmy Jean-Louis (“the Haitian”) and former Michael Jackson guitarist Orianthi. Also pitching in according to a press statement from organizers were the members of Sugarland, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Mraz, India.Arie, Mary Mary, Tyrese Gibson, Raphael Saadiq, Pink, Jordin Sparks, Rob Thomas, Usher, the Fray’s Isaac Slade, child prodigy pianist Ethan Bortnick, Enrique Iglesias, Robin Thicke, Jamie Foxx, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, the Jonas Brothers, Nicole Scherzinger and Julianne Hough. 'We Are the world' 2010 video for Haiti debuted last night at the 2010 Winter Olympic opening ceremonies. An original song written by Michael Jackson and recorded in the Jim Henson Studios by more than 80 stars became the remake heard around the world today as it was released world wide. The song, heard by more than 160 countries, brought global focus to a country hard hit by natural disaster. Highly anticipated, the song was almost majestic in tone, sounding similar to the original by with a 21st century take. The singers brought new life into the classic and new focus to the concerns of Haiti and how the devastating earthquake needs additional relief. Was it worth 25 years of waiting? Of course it was!
